- Evangelicals Say Poor, Minorities Will Be Hardest Hit By Climate Legislation
Religious Coalition Calls On Congress To Care For “The Least Of These”
(May 26, 2009)
“The Waxman-Markey bill’s passage through committee may be a boost to wealthy investors in alternative energy companies, but it is a massive tax increase and a heavy burden to lay on Americans with low and middle incomes.
“It’s a tax on the poor. The poor spend a much higher portion of their income on home energy, transportation, and necessities—like groceries, clothing, and housing costs—than the wealthy. Cap-and-trade will make all of those things more expensive.” CA
- Evangelical “voice of reason” on climate change staffs up with addition of top-flight executive director to expand national outreach
(April 21, 2009)
"I’ve been fighting for pro-life and pro-family values for the past twenty-five years, and I am excited to continue that work with the Cornwall Alliance. Environmental stewardship and care for the poor are deeply Biblical issues, but secular environmentalism has increasingly set its sights on limiting development and reducing human population.
“Now, at a time when American families are struggling to make ends meet, Washington is considering a host of ill-advised measures that would make prices for energy, food, and other essential needs skyrocket.” CA

The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation today thanked the National Association of Evangelicals for clarifying its stance on climate change.
In a wide-ranging interview about the resignation of Rev. Richard Cizik, who stepped down this week from his post as vice president for governmental affairs after making controversial remarks about gay marriage and abortion, NAE President Leith Anderson clarified that the organization does not “have a specific position…on global warming or emissions. [Cizik] has spoken as an individual on that.” CA

- Perceived Southern Baptist Split on Global Warming Evaporating
Most Prominent Signer Reaffirms SBC Resolutions Critical of Global Warming Alarm, Calls Science “Conflicting At Best”
(March 11, 2008)
This declaration, though sincere, is being used to give the false impression of a major split among Southern Baptists over global warming. Indeed, according to the most prominent signer, Southern Baptist Convention President Frank Page, the official position of the SBC has not changed from earlier resolutions that question global warming claims.
Dr. Page clarified that he does not think the denomination’s resolutions have been “too timid,” according to a separate statement issued the same day. “As Southern Baptist Convention President, I totally stand behind the resolutions that have been passed in recent years…. The scientific research on human-induced global warming is conflicting at best. CA
