New Book, Resisting the Green Dragon: Dominion, Not Death, Now Available

Hot off the press from the Cornwall Alliance is a powerful, well-researched analysis of the contemporary environmental movement. In Resisting the Green Dragon: Dominion, Not Death, physicist and lay theologian Dr. James A. Wanliss carefully documents the anti-Christian worldview, theology, and ethics of the Green movement.

“Like a lion, the environmental movement has stalked its prey—in this case the Christian church,” says Doug Bandow, author of Beyond Good Intentions: A Biblical View of Politics. “And many devout Christians have adopted a ‘green’ message in response. But in Resisting the Green Dragon James Wanliss presents a vision of genuine stewardship, which worships God, places man at the center of creation, and cares for the poor. Wanliss’s fine book warns Christians to avoid all idols, even green ones.”

The 309-page book, including an extensive index to enhance its value for study, has seven chapters:
  1. Green Dragon: How Environmentalism Gets It Wrong
  2. The Church Complicit: How Environmentalism Has Penetrated the Church with Anti-Human and Anti-Christian Ideas
  3. Created in the Image of God: Why Humans Are More Special to God than Other Creatures
  4. Naked Ape: How Nature Is Not Divine, and Humans Are Spiritually Superior to All Other Creatures
  5. Dominion: How Humans’ Filling and Ruling the Earth Can Release It from Bondage
  6. Death Wish: How the “Sustainability” Chimera Is Harmful to the Environment and Politically Dangerous
  7. Dominion, Not Death: How Environmentalism Harms the Poor and Biblical Christianity Offers the True Hope for the Future
The book is a companion to, but not redundant of, Cornwall Alliance’s twelve-part DVD series Resisting the Green Dragon.

“Dr. Wanliss’s book … should be read in depth by all those concerned to maintain biblical religion and a serious respect for God’s creation whilst not falling into the trap of deifying the ecology movement,” says Dr. John Warwick Montgomery, one of the world’s leading Christian apologists, Professor Emeritus of Law and Humanities at the University of Bedfordshire, UK, and Distinguished Research Professor, Patrick Henry College, Virginia.

Recent Significant Developments

Science & Ecology

Dec. 2010 UAH Global Temperature Update: +0.18 deg. C (Roy Spencer; DrRoySpencer.com)
Global warming alarmists claim 2010 is second-warmest year on record, but Christopher Monckton points out two dozen errors, exaggerations, or misleading claims involved in the claim. Dr. Don Easterbrook also refutes the claim here.

Our Resilient Earth (Marlo Lewis; Globalwarming.org)
Many now know that bacteria gobbled up oil from the BP spill in the Gulf, preventing extensive ecological harm. Now we learn that bacteria also gobbled up methane—a fact that undermines another global warming scare.

Invasion of the Invasive Species! (Ronald Bailey; Reason.com)
The common fear that introducing new species to an area will cause others to go extinct and so reduce biodiversity falls before empirical observation. On the contrary, local biodiversity increases with introduction of new species, and few to no extinctions can be attributed to “invasive species.”

High-yield Agriculture Slows Pace of Global Warming, Say FSE Researchers (Louis Bergeron; Food Security and the Environment)
High-yield farming reduces agriculture-related carbon dioxide emissions by about half a trillion tons. If you believe those emissions drive global warming, you should love high-yield farming!

Economics & Energy

CFACT Debates Energy Poverty in New York Times (CFACT)
NYT’s Andy Revkin and Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow’s Craig Rucker engage in a constructive discussion of how to end energy poverty. Revkin’s devotion to climate alarmism, however, handicaps his understanding.

Cornwall Alliance Founder and National Spokesman Cal Beisner was a guest on the Charles Colson Center’s Wilberforce Forum Monday, January 17, discussing the impact of climate and energy policy on the world’s poor, as well as other topics. The podcast is available here.

Religion & Ethics

Left-wing Bloggers Take Aim at Resisting the Green Dragon
Joining RightWingwatch.org, Mother Jones, and Huffington Post, bloggers Nancy Roberts at Care2 make a difference, Michael d’Estries at Mother Nature Network, Molly Peterson at Southern California Public Radio, and Cord Jefferson at Good Culture are upset about Cornwall’s Resisting the Green Dragon. All seem to rely on RightWingWatch’s pirated, edited-down version of our promo video rather than carefully assessing the full series of videos or even our own 12-minute promo. They misrepresent us as pitting people against nature, while our actual message is that human prosperity enables good environmental stewardship.

South Carolina Church Showing Resisting the Green Dragon Video Series
Mountain Bridge Bible Fellowship, 572 N. Highway 25, Travelers Rest, SC, meeting in the Batson Building, has scheduled viewing and discussing of Resisting the Green Dragon DVDs each Wednesday night for the next twelve weeks. Phone 864-444-4539. If your church or group are hosting a showing of Resisting the Green Dragon, let us know and we’ll pass on the news.

Politics & Debate

Exam Board Accused of "Brainwashing" Pupils with Inaccurate Climate Graph (Heidi Blake, The Telegraph)
Global warming alarmist ideology dictates false information in British classrooms. Learn more about how environmentalists abuse public education to indoctrinate students in Michael Farris’s lecture “From Captain Planet to Avatar: The Seduction of Our Youth,” in Resisting the Green Dragon.

Kevin Trenberth's Weird Opinions About the Climate
If you like watching boxing matches in which one guy utterly pulverizes the other, you'll love reading Lubos Motl's crushing critique of global warming alarmist Kevin Trenberth's pitiful paper to be delivered (but already posted in preprint) to the American Meteorological Society.

BBC Hits UK Govt with Freedom of Information Demand in Cold Winter Forecast Fiasco (John O'Sullivan; Canada Free Press)
UK Met Office’s failure to warn of severe winter cold could have been driven by government climate policy leaders committed to combating anthropogenic global warming. More fallout appears here (confusion at the Met), here (Lufthansa demands compensation for unwarned snow-caused losses), here (ditto Virgin Atlantic), and here (Heathrow operator still trusts Met).
